Mayor of Szczecin since 2006. He is the initiator of many city-building initiatives. He launched the process of designing and implementing a long-term strategy for managing the brand of the city of Szczecin Floating Garden 2050, as well as an unprecedented three-year process of public consultations for the Szczecin 2020 program, which includes the city's development directions in the EU financial perspective 2014 – 2020.
During his tenure, Szczecin has increasingly turned towards the water. The city has renovated kilometers of boulevards, making it the host of the largest outdoor maritime event several times – the finals of The Tall Ships Races. Piotr Krzystek is implementing an ambitious investment program. Since 2006, the city has been dynamically changing its face.
The road infrastructure has significantly improved, modern trams and buses now operate in Szczecin, and architectural icons such as the Szczecin Philharmonic, the Summer Theatre, and the Lentz Villa are being built. In recent years, a modern football stadium and the Water Factory – a unique aquapark combined with an educational center – have also been opened. These facilities have immediately become some of Szczecin's major landmarks.
Privately, Piotr Krzystek values active leisure, spending his free time on tennis courts, and during the sailing season, he engages in water sports.
