Dr Mariusz Sokołowski

Doctor of Humanities, graduate of the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science at the University of Warsaw, the Higher Police School in Szczytno and pedagogy at the Academy of Agriculture and Technology in Olsztyn, retired Polish police inspector. In the past, a spokesman for the Polish Police for many years. Currently adjunct professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences and International Studies at the University of Warsaw and partner at the public relations agency - Prostrategic Communication.

In 2001 he obtained a doctoral degree in history at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn on the basis of a thesis entitled The Police and Society in the Interwar Period. Until 2003 he was a research and didactic employee at the Police Academy in Szczytno, and until 2013 he was an assistant professor at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. Until 2016, lecturer at the Wszechnica Polska - Warsaw University. Since 2013 a research and teaching employee at the University of Warsaw. First, he was an assistant professor at the Institute of Political Science, Faculty of Journalism and Political Science, University of Warsaw, and then - from 2016 until today - he is an assistant professor at the Department of Security Studies, Faculty of Political Science and International Studies.

In 2011, he received training in ‘Leadership and Management in Public Benefit Protection Authorities’ at the College of Justice and Forensic Sciences of the University of New Haven (USA).

From 2004 to 2007, he was spokesperson for the Capital Police Commander and then, until August 2015, spokesperson for the Chief of Police. During his 12 years of service in these positions he managed ‘Media’ operations in the Polish Police during the biggest events in the country, such as: European Economic Summit in 2004, Council of Europe Summit in 2005, EURO 2012 Football World Cup or Men's Volleyball World Championship 2014. He is the winner of the prestigious award in the first edition of the ‘PRotons’ competition in the ‘Spokesperson’ category. In 2012, he was honoured with the ‘PR Lion’ award, which is given by the Polish Public Relations Association to people with outstanding professional achievements who demonstrate an innovative approach to work and care about the highest level of professional ethics. In 2010, he was nominated ‘for his competent and consistent building of a positive image of the Police in a country where the uniform is still very badly associated, and for his activity in the media and accessibility to journalists’, to the top three of the prestigious ‘Brief 2010 Man’ competition in the ‘Brief PR Man 2010’ category.

Over the years, he has been involved in activities to improve and promote safety, initiating and leading numerous actions and prevention programmes involving representatives of all age groups: children, young people, adults and seniors.

The social campaigns he co-organised and supported could be counted in hundreds. They include, among others: ‘Stop 18’, “Safe road with Sponge Bob's advice”, ’Drunk? Don't drive!’, “Champions in belts”, “Don't [by]call behind the wheel”. In 2010, he was the originator and organiser of the police campaign ‘Use your imagination’, aimed at improving road safety. The campaign was awarded the prestigious ‘Effie Awards 2010’, which is awarded as part of one of the world's most important marketing competitions.

He has worked and continues to work with academia, the judiciary, as well as organisations including‘Blue Line’, ‘Ithaca’, ‘WOŚP’ and ‘La Strada’ - his mission was to activate everyone for whom citizen safety is important.
